Hello Tayger,
Yes, our pricing plans have been changing. You are correct that the free Developer plan limits your user count to 100. To be clear, that is the total number of users in your Users collection, not active users. Perhaps you might be able to reduce the number of users in your Users collection by deleting/destroying user records of accounts that you know are no longer active users or records that you might have created during the development process.
That said, the pricing of $24,000.00 per year for the Business Edition paid account is strictly list price and there is a lot of room for negotiation. I will forward you to one of your sales representatives and you can speak with him about the possibilities and options. I am confident that you and the sales rep can come up with an affordable plan that works for you.
Regards,
Billy
Hi Billy
Thank you for your quick and informative answer. I am planning to create a GPS based multiplayer game, so 100 (registered) users are like nothing and can't be deleted as the service needs to know all of these. I need a scalable service not a "shrinkable" service. ;) Of course more users produce more bandwidth, etc. and paying for that is ok in a scalable way, just not like 24k/year. So I don't understand this pricing plan. Even if there is a lot of room for negotiation, lets say the service would cost me "only" $10'000 and I have maybe 200 users at that time, it's still way too much. I made already some calculation and AWS would cost me like $1500/year for what I need (being aware you offer some more services making the programmers life easier).

Tayger
Hello Tayger,
I understand your concern. All these are valid concerns to share with the sales rep when he reaches out to you via email to discuss your options. I realize that the $24k list pricing seems ominous but there is a lot of flexibility in this plan and the sales rep is the best person to help you work through the options.
Please let us know if you don't hear from the sales rep soon and I'll ping the sales team again.
Regards,
Billy
Hello Tayger,
I have one additional question. Are you actually hitting your 100 total user limit right now and if so, are you receiving an error? If you are seeing an error, what is the error?
We look forward to hearing back from you.
Regards,
Billy Gee
Hi Billy
A sales representative has contacted me and had offered some additional options. All over: its all about for companies with already a (user) income to be able to pay for Kinvey and other services but not intended for (private) developers building up an app with the requirements "pay as you go".
To your question: I did not hit the 100 user mark yet, not even a single one. I'm in the evaluation phase what software/service I plan to use for my upcoming app. I just wanted to know what happens (financially) when I would hit 100+ user. So I'm looking further to find a better fitting/scalable cloud service for my needs.
Regards and all the best with Kinvey
Tayger
Hello Tayger,
You are currently grandfathered into the free Developer plan meaning that the restriction of 100 total users is based upon the honor system so once you exceed 100 users, you app will not stop accepting new users. However, at some point you will want to work with the sales rep to find an appropriate version of the plan for you and your app.
I will speak with the Sales Rep who contacted you and see if there is anything else that we can do to accommodate you once you do hit 100+ users.
Regards,
Billy
Hi Billy
Wow, that makes me speechless, thank you very much! So I will continue to use Kinvey as soon as I can find time to start my project: Of course I would then return to your sales representatives and talk about paid future plans!
Many thank and have a nice day!
Tayger
Billy, I have a similar issue. I started using Kinvey in 2013, I'm curious as to the pricing available to us small guys. some of us don't have commercials apps so we can afford to pay those high fees. Just be honest, should we migrate and move on to other providers?
Lawrence
Hello Lawrence,
Sadly we have eliminated the Startup plan. However, if you have a need to upgrade, I would encourage you to speak with one of our sales reps. I can put you in touch with one of them. They have great latitude to negotiate the Business Edition plan pricing so please don't let the list pricing on our pricing page put you off.
If you are able to negotiate something that works for you then that's great. If not and you feel that you need to move on to another service then we certainly understand.
Just let me know if you'd like to at least speak with someone and I can connect you with them.
Regards,
Billy
Tayger
Hello
I have registerred at Kinvey for about 2 months. Today I got an email telling me that there are some changes for Kinvey accounts. That made me going to https://www.kinvey.com/pricing/
First I couldn't believe what I read there and asked twice in the live chat to confirm my assumption: If you have up to 100 users you can use the free Developer account. If you have 101 user using your app you have to pay $24000 per year!!! The representatives were a bit confused too but said it is how its written. Whether there are named or just active user (I don't know) it is like nothing and pretty fast reached.
I'm a single developer and I don't know what application needs to be created to produce an income that allows me to pay $24000! Did I oversee something or is that steep scale curve wanted to focus big companies that can pay this?
I have checked my free Developer account that still allows me to switch to "Startup" plan. This plan doesn't exist (anymore) in the mentioned pricing link and I can't remember what it all offers. Can someone send me a link where I see all the information about that Startup plan?
Please don't get me wrong: I'm up to create an app and I tended to use Kinvey. I understand that this platform is not for free in case of larger use and I'm willing for pay for what I need (pay as you go). I just would wish I had some bars to set what I need and pay for that, so there is something between $0 and $24000.
Regards
